In the Creative and Performing Arts faculty, students are offered a large range of musical opportunities, which include performing in front of their peers and being involved in school performance assemblies and Big Gig. Instruments the students use include drum kits, keyboards, digital piano, classical piano, acoustic guitar, bass guitar and electric guitar. In years 7 and 8, students learn a range of pieces on both piano and guitar. It is then offered as an elective from years 9-10 with it being offered for HSC as well. Performance assemblies offer students in years 7-12 that are interested in the field the chance to perform in front of peers and gain experience. They involve many rehearsals leading up to the final performance but in the end it is enjoyed by both the audience and talented performers. Big Gig is an opportunity also given to students from years 7-12 involving acting and dancing as well as singing and instrument playing. In 2008’s Big Gig, students from Narooma, Bega and Moruya High Schools presented the successful performance. The theme was Myths and Legends, Moruya chose to do a Bollywood theme that included stunning belly dancing and fantastic singing. Year 7 and 8 work in small classes and study three periods of Visual Arts per cycle. They make technical notes on art-making, research brief historical projects, perform critical analysis or evaluation tasks and other tasks which target literacy skills. This is all in addition to creative process of producing their own art work. If Visual Arts is chosen as an elective in years 9 and 10, students devote at least twice as many periods per cycle to their study in this area. They complete all types of practical and theoretical work in both art making and art studying tasks (such as descriptions, evaluations, procedural recounts, critical analyses and historical notes). Visual Arts and Photography are also offered as subjects in the HSC. They involve: - Practical tasks which document the process of the Body of Work. We display our artwork in the Library and foyer whenever possible. Our school has been invited to hold Art Exhibitions in the Mechanics Institute of Moruya. This is now being run by Eurobodalla Council, and is providing a professional space, accompanied by professional training, for all students involved. This is an exciting opportunity for students interested in various aspects of the Arts. This could encourage them to move into the University Courses involved in Curatorships, Events Organisers or into Fine Arts. |
